Bengals 2026 Training Camp Preview: Special Teams

Training camp is about to commence, as we get to the final edition of this series. It is a pretty bland one to conclude with. Last year, we saw some competition at the LS position. Cal Adomitis was the incumbent, but rookie UDFA William Wagner came in and took the job.
This year, Wagner sits as the only LS on the roster, and it appears that there will be no competition. In fact, none of the players here will be facing any competition or splitting duties during the summer. Now, this isn’t super surprising. Wagner was solid enough as a rookie, while McPherson and Rehkow are quality players at their respective positions. Even still, it is not unusual for teams to have second players at each position to take a load off. But it appears like the Bengals won’t be doing that.
Eyes will be on Evan McPherson this season. He enjoyed a nice bounce back 2025, but his rocky 2024 season is still kind of lingering in the minds of some fans. Coming in again and proving that 2024 was a one-off will be important for him.
Rehkow has been the team’s punter for the last 2 seasons, and has been a bright spot. Or at least as bright as a punter can be. His booming leg has routinely flipped the field from deeper positions, while his directional punting and ability to place punts inside the 20 has been coming along. There is no reason to not expect him to continue at a high level.
