A few days ago, the Bengals released QB Brett Rypien.
Rypien was added to the team’s practice squad following the final roster cuts of the preseason. They opted to bring him in over Desmond Ridder, who had been their 3rd string QB during the offseason.
When Burrow went on IR, the Bengals promoted Rypien to the active roster to serve as Jake Browning’s backup. However, when they traded for Joe Flacco, Rypien had to be cut to make room.
It has been a few days since the move, and they have not since added him back to the practice squad. This is a little surprising, as he had just been the team’s primary backup. But it seems as though they will be sticking with Sean Clifford as the QB3. Clifford, initially, was added onto the practice squad when Rypien was promoted to the roster. He has since outlasted both Rypien and Mike White, who was also recently cut, in the organization.
