The Bengals have claimed DT Jordan Jefferson off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers.
Jefferson was originally a 4th round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024. He appeared in 9 games with the Jaguars as a rookie, recording 1 sack and 12 total tackles. This past offseason, they waived him during final cuts.
When he was waived the first time, the Bengals actually tried to claim him. However, the 49ers also put in a claim, and were awarded the player, as they had the higher waiver priority,
Jefferson appeared in only 1 game with the 49ers this season, and did not record any statistics. He was recently waived by the Niners and, this time, the Bengals were able to get the player that they wanted.
In a corresponding move, the team has waived DT Howard Cross III.
Cross III is a rookie undrafted free agent who signed with the Bengals following the draft. This reunited him with Al Golden, who was his defensive coordinator at Notre Dame.
After an impressive camp, Cross III made the initial 53 man roster. He only appeared in 1 game, however, recording 1 tackle in week 3 against the Vikings.
Cross III will now go on waivers, and other teams will have the chance to claim him. If he passes through, I’d expect the Bengals to keep him on the practice squad.
