The Bengals have waived DT Eric Gregory. This move comes after they signed G Dalton Risner.

Gregory is a rookie undrafted free agent who signed with the Bengals following the NFL Draft. At a position with thin organizational depth, he got the chance to compete for a spot. Gregory came in and had a solid camp, followed up by a preseason that showed some flashes.

He was able to make the initial 53 man roster and stick for a few days. However, with space needed for an addition along the offensive line, they had to put him on waiver.

If Gregory clears waivers, he certainly will be retained on the practice squad. He still has potential as a rotational lineman, and the team would like to continue developing him, even if it is not on the roster.

The Bengals have also made a couple of practice squad signings, bringing aboard OT Javon Foster, while releasing OT Devin Cochran.

Foster was originally a 4th round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024. Going back to my pre-draft evaluation of him, his size and length were desirable traits, but he was in need of some technical work. I had a 6th round grade on him.

He seems like a worthwhile addition to the practice squad, as he could one day make the roster, if they are able to develop him further.

Cochran, meanwhile, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bengals in 2023. He had spent most of his time with the Bengals on the practice squad, but he did get elevated for one game last season to make a spot start.

These transactions leave open one spot on the practice squad, presumably for Eric Gregory. As is usually the case, there are often a lot of musical chairs taking place on the practice squad throughout the season, and it would not be a surprise to see Cochran return at some point down the line.
