The Bengals took the field on Wednesday for day 6 of training camp. Trey Hendrickson ended his hold out and turned it into a hold in. He is showing up to avoid the fine, but is out there in street clothes, not participating in practice. G Lucas Patrick was back after missing a day or two. C Seth McLaughlin was activated and out there for his first professional practice. BJ Hill, meanwhile, was in uniform for his first practice of the year.
It was a pretty good day for the defence. We saw Joe Burrow throw his first interception of camp, with Josh Newton picking off the pass in the end zone. Jordan Battle did well in coverage against Ja’Marr Chase, breaking up a pass in the end zone, and Cam Taylor-Britt bested Chase on another play. Rookie LB Barrett Carter also got into the action with a pass breakup.
On the offensive side, Andrei Iosivas was one of the standouts. He made a good handful of plays down the field. A couple of them went over the middle, and he had a nice back shoulder catch along the sideline, as well.
An interesting observation from practice was that Jalen Rivers got some work at RT with the first team. I saw him get beat pretty cleanly by Myles Murphy on one play, but Burrow’s quick release prevented Murphy from making a play. Burrow completed that pass to Jermaine Burton. As for Rivers, I still would like to see him competing at G, which better suits his skill set.
Amarius Mims continues to have a standout camp, while the interior parts of the offensive line continue to have some issues. Dylan Fairchild has flashed a few times, but also gave up a sack to Joseph Ossai. Still early to tell if he is ready. Brandon Scherff, Dalton Risner, Will Hernandez… do the Bengals bring one in? They should.
