After losing scout Christian Sarkisian to Northwestern, the Bengals seem to have found a replacement.
Trey LaBounty has been hired by the team as a scouting research analyst.
LaBounty most recently was an analytics intern with the Buffalo Bills. He also served as a data analyst with the Stanford football program, this coming after a college career as a player, with his time split between Stanford and Miami (OH).
The Bengals scouting department, notorious for being small, is still small. But on the bright side, it didn’t get smaller, and they acted quickly to replace Sarkisian. LaBounty is a new face and will be bringing some fresh ideas to the organization’s scouting department—ones that hopefully will lead to some successful draft classes.
In other news, former Bengals RB Trayveon Henderson is signing a 1 year deal with the New England Patriots.
Williams was originally a 6th round pick of the Bengals in 2019. There were brief moments where he was on the practice squad, but he spent most of his tenure with the team on the active roster.
From his rookie season onwards, Williams was a regular on the special teams unit, while also serving as a depth option on offence. His offensive production in the league thus far is limited, but there was an extended stretch where he was the team’s primary return man.
Williams was versatile enough to serve in various roles, but wasn’t eye-catching with the ball in his hands. The Bengals have quite a bit of veteran depth behind Chase Brown, in Zack Moss and Samaje Perine. As well, they used a 6th round pick on Tahj Brooks in an effort to improve the position group. As a result, there wasn’t any room left for Williams. He will now hope to catch on with the Patriots out of camp.
