Bengals Rework Deal of RB Zack Moss

The Bengals and RB Zack Moss have agreed to a reworked contract.

Moss originally signed a 2 year deal with the team last offseason. The Bengals had just traded Joe Mixon, while Moss was coming off somewhat of a breakout year, filling in for Jonathan Taylor.

Moss entered this offseason with a scheduled cap hit of $4,816,176. Able to save $3,316,176 by cutting him, with just $1.5M in dead money, the widely expected outcome was that he would be cut once he was cleared from his season ending neck injury suffered last season.

But now, it looks like the Bengals have opted to keep him. The reworked deal should have some benefits for both sides. It is likely that Moss gets more guaranteed money than the $1.5M. For the team, they likely managed to get a cap hit that comes in below $4.8M. The player gets more than the money he’d have gotten for being cut, while the Bengals keep a player they like at a lower cap hit.

The part on the cap hit is speculation on my end right now, but it is something that would make sense for both sides. The exact numbers haven’t been released yet, but will be filled in when they are.

For now, it looks like Zack Moss will compete with Samaje Perine and possibly a draft pick for the RB2 job.
