The Bengals have released G Alex Cappa.
Cappa is second on the list of cuts, after Sheldon Rankins was let go just recently.
This was one of the most predictable moves in the offseason. Initially signed by the Bengals from Tampa Bay in 2022, Cappa was supposed to improve a RG position that had been a liability for several years. Initially, he did just that, having a solid first season in stripes. He took a step back in 2023, before becoming one of the worst G’s in football in 2024. This past season, he allowed 8 sacks, and seemingly consistent pressure to get through the middle.
By releasing Cappa, the Bengals have freed up $8M in cap space. However, the move also leaves behind $2.25M in dead money. Still, the money freed up is significant, and will allow the Bengals to find a replacement on the free agent market.
