The Bengals have placed K Evan McPherson on IR.
McPherson is dealing with a groin injury, which will leave him sidelined for a minimum of 4 weeks. Given that the Bengals are now nearing the end of a lost season, they may elect not to return him from IR for a meaningless game in week 18.
The usually reliable kicker had been experiencing a down year in 2024. McPherson is 16/24 on the year, for a dismal 72.7%. Some of his misses have been critical ones that ended up coming in one score losses. Hopefully we see him bounce back next season.
As for his replacement, the Bengals have signed K Cade York to the practice squad.
York was originally a 2022 4th round pick of the Cleveland Browns, out of LSU. He has a big leg but inconsistencies led to him losing his job in Cleveland. A trade to the Commanders gave him a fresh start, but he was waived after just one game.
York will start out on the practice squad and be elevated to the roster for the next 3 games. Once he hits the 3 game maximum, he will have to be signed to the roster in order to continue playing. The Bengals will either do that, or sign someone else to the practice squad, depending on York’s performance.
The Bengals made a third roster move, signing OL Andrew Stuber off the practice squad.
He was recently waived to make room for Devin Cochran on the roster, before signing back to the practice squad. With the extra roster spot, the Bengals were able to bring him back up to the 53. Stueber first joined the Bengals back in October when the team plucked him off the Falcons practice squad.
