The Tennessee Titans are signing former Bengals WR Tyler Boyd to a 1 year/$4.5M contract.
Boyd was originally a 2nd round pick of the Bengals in 2016. He had a slow start to his career, but his famous game winning catch against the Baltimore Ravens in the 2017 season finale seemed to propel things for him. In 2018, he took a big leap forward, and was a big part of the offence ever since.
Boyd did see his usage decline a bit in recent years, with Higgins and Chase entering the fold, but last season was especially slow for the slot receiver. Boyd saw his lowest usage since that 2017 season.
Entering the offseason, the expectation was that the Bengals would be moving on from Boyd. The team was looking to get more explosive on offence, and accomplished that by drafting Boyd’s presumed replacement, Jermaine Burton, in the 3rd round back in April.
Boyd will be joining former Bengals offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan, in Tennessee. Callahan, of course, was poached away by the Titans earlier on in the offseason. For Boyd, it will mean some familiarity, even as he joins a new team for the first time in his career.
Tyler Boyd leaves the Bengals having compiled 6,000 yards and 31 TD’s on 513 catches, as well as 166 rushing yards and 85 passing yards.
