After picking up a tie in week 2 of the preseason, the Bengals concluded their preseason on Saturday in Washington against the Commanders. It was the final opportunity for bubble players to make their case for a spot on the team.

With Jake Browning getting the start, the offence got going quickly. Chase Brown was involved quite a bit, and Andrei Iosivas made a nice 25 yard catch. Not long after, Browning found Iosivas again, wide open in the back of the endzone for the TD.

A few drives later, with good starting field position, the Commanders answered. After a series of shorter plays, Brissett completed a 39 yard deep shot to Tinsley for the TD. A McPherson 58 yard field goal would later put the Bengals up 10-7, which is how it was left at halftime.

The Commanders took the lead after their first drive of the second half, going nearly the length of the field, 94 yards. Jake Fromm completed his first 4 passes, including one for 22 yards. Later on, Fromm found Tinsley for 37 yards, setting them up at the 1 yard line. Tremayne would punch it in a play later. 14-10 Commanders.

Washington would answer another Bengals field goal with another TD. This drive was highlighted by a series of intermediate completions over the Bengals secondary. It was Dillon who caught a 7 yard pass from Fromm to finish off the drive. 21-13.

With 4th string QB Reid Sinnett now in the game, the Bengals would go on their second TD drive of the game, driving 75 yards down the field. Sinnett found Malachi Carter for 14 to start the drive off. After a few runs, Sinnett connected with Carter again, this time for 12 yards. Now inside the Washington 35, Sinnett connected with Shedrick Jackson for the TD. A bust in Washington’s secondary led to Jackson being wide open. Unable to convert on the 2 point try, the score remained 21-19, which is how it ended.

With the preseason now in the rear view mirror, the focus for the Bengals now shifts to their week 1 matchup against the Browns.
