The Bengals have claimed CB Chris Lammons off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lammons was originally signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2019. After spending his rookie year with the Dolphins, he went on to spend most of 2020-2022 with the Chiefs, bouncing between the roster and practice squad.
In his career, Lammons has found his way into 40 games. He racked up 26 total tackles, 3 pass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble over that span. For the Chiefs, he has mainly been a depth player in the secondary, but has played a lot of snaps on special teams. In all likelihood, the Chiefs wanted him back on the practice squad. Had he made it there, he could have potentially been elevated to face the Bengals in Sunday’s game. Lammons was active against the Bengals in their first meeting this year.
Per the NFL waiver rules, a player claimed during the playoffs is ineligible to play for the claiming team until the following season. This means that with the Bengals set to face his former team on Sunday, Lammons will be unable to suit up. However, the team is still allowed to talk to him. So any insights he may have on the Chiefs, or their gameplan, can still be passed along by Lammons to the Bengals.
