Voting for the 2023 Pro Bowl has concluded, with three Bengals making the initial roster. QB Joe Burrow, WR, Ja’Marr Chase, and DE Trey Hendrickson have each been selected.
For Burrow, this is his first career Pro Bowl selection. At the conclusion of week 15, Burrow has the 4th most passing yards in the NFL and the 2nd most passing TD’s. He has been having an incredible year for the Bengals, helping them to a 10-4 record up to this point of the season.
Chase makes his 2nd career Pro Bowl in his 2nd season in the league. The young wideout already has 881 receiving yards and 8 TD’s despite missing 4 games due to injury. Chase is on pace to have another 1000+ yard season.
Like Chase, Hendrickson has been selected to a 2nd straight Pro Bowl. While he hasn’t quite padded the stats to the same extent that he did last year, Hendrickson has been having just as big an impact in terms of putting up pressure. Up to this point, he has 6 sacks on the year.
The following Bengals have been selected as alternates:
- S, Jessie Bates (2nd)
- RB, Joe Mixon (3rd)
- WR, Tyler Boyd (3rd)
- K, Evan McPherson (4th)
- C, Ted Karras (5th)
- DT, DJ Reader (5th)
- S, Vonn Bell (5th)
Should any of the original selections be unable to attend, the NFL would look to the alternate list for replacements. Should the Bengals make the Super Bowl, their Pro Bowl selections would be unable to attend. Players selected to the initial roster keep the Pro Bowl title, even if they are unable to attend. Alternates, however, must attend in order to get Pro Bowl status.
This season, the Pro Bowl will take on a different format. The game itself has been scrapped. Instead, a series of skills competitions will take place throughout the week. At the end of it, a flag football game will be held.
