Recapping the Bengals Second Day of 2025 Training Camp

On Thursday, the Bengals were back at it for day 2 of training camp. It was a quick session, about an hour–maybe a little less. Padless once again.

The heat was a factor in this one. Josh Newton left and wasn’t feeling too well. Tee Higgins also went down at one point and a trainer was stretching out his leg. Early to speculate right now, but the conditions make cramping a big possibility, which would be good if just that.

Myles Murphy was also carted off, though Joe Danneman reported that he didn’t seem to be in too much discomfort. He walked himself to the cart before being taken away. Possibly a leg or foot issue. Cam Sample replaced him with the first team.

After a slow offensive day to open camp, Burrow’s unit was better today in limited action. He hit Jermaine Burton for a nice catch along the sideline. He then hit Tee Higgins for a deep TD after he had gotten behind the defence. Obviously, this was before the injury.

Higgins beat DJ Turner for the TD, but Turner was able to get a win soon after. In coverage against Andrei Iosivas, Iosivas went up to high point the ball, and Turner was able to dislodge it at the catch point. It is also worth noting that Cam Taylor-Britt successfully defended a deep shot that was intended for Higgins a short while before Higgins caught his TD.

Daxton Hill continues to be brought along slowly. According to Kelsey Conway, he got some work on the boundary during 7 on 7 drills. At a different point, he also got some work in the slot, while Josh Newton shifted to the outside. On the offensive side, it is worth noting that the Bengals had rookie 3rd round pick Dylan Fairchild getting the 1st team reps at LG.

Charlie Goldsmith also made an interesting observation, noting that the defensive approach early on here is different with Al Golden running things. He has each defensive position rotating through all the drills, rather than having specific drills for each position group.

With day 2 of camp over, the other interesting news was that the team was reportedly set to bring in TE Noah Fant for a visit. We’ll have to stay tuned to see if anything happens there.
