The New England Patriots have signed QB Will Grier off of the Bengals practice squad.

As per usual when it comes to signing players off of other teams’ practice squads, the Bengals could have blocked them by elevating Grier to the 53 man roster. However, they still seem to be more comfortable with Jake Browning as the lone backup on the 53, given his familiarity with the system.Grier first joined the Bengals practice squad earlier this month after the Cowboys Waived him during final cuts. There was hope that he would eventually make his way into the number 2 spot, but those hopes will have to be put on hold.

Given that practice squad players do tend to bounce around quite often, it would not be a surprise if Grier eventually ends up back with the Bengals, should the Patriots let him go.

With Grier off to New England for now, the Bengals have added QB Reid Sinnett to the practice squad. Sinnett was signed during the offseason when Burrow went down with a calf injury. He saw some action in the preseason finale, throwing a TD pass to Shedrick Jackson. Given his familiarity with the system, this move does not come as a surprise.

If Burrow is unable to suit up on Monday night, it will be Sinnett backing up Jake Browning.

In other news, the Bengals have released CB Marvell Tell off of IR.

Tell originally joined the team’s practice squad in September of last year. After taking part in the preseason, he was placed on IR with an injury. But seemingly back healthy, the Bengals have let him go, allowing him to seek other opportunities to play.
