The Bengals have signed DE Noah Spence.

Spence is a veteran edge rusher who was originally a 2nd round pick of the Buccaneers, back in 2016. After spending three season with the team, he spent parts of 2019 with Washington and New Orleans.

Over the course of his career, he has racked up 7.5 sacks in 41 games played.

After missing the 2020 season with a torn ACL, Spence will look to make a late impression in order to stick with the Bengals.

The Bengals have released the following 5 players:

  • DT Freedom Akinmoladun
  • QB, Eric Dungey
  • TE, Cheyenne O’Grady
  • S, Kavon Frazier
  • C, Lamont Gaillard

Akinmoladun had split time between the Bengals practice squad and roster over the last two years, appearing in 2 games each season.

Dungey was signed by the Bengals following his OTA tryout. He appeared late in the Bengals second preseason game, but he seemingly didn’t show enough through camp to jump Kyle Shurmur on the depth chart.

O’Grady was also signed this offseason. His college film showed a lot of potential, but he never was given any snaps in the preseason, and was buried behind Moss, Schreck, and Wilcox.

Frazier was signed by the Bengals in May. He did see some action in the preseason, and was able to intercept a tipped pass. However, the Bengals depth at the position made it tough for him to land a spot.

Gaillard was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals just before camp started, presumably as a depth body while they eased Trey Hopkins back into things. He was always a long shot to make the roster.

According to Tom Pelissero, Bengals rookie DE Joseph Ossai will be having knee surgury for a meniscus injury.

Ossai left the preseason opener against the Buccaneers with what was thought to be a broken wrist. The next day, he also felt some discomfort in his knee, which led to the discovery of the injury.

While the report says that there is some fear it could be season-ending, menicus injuries are generally less serious than some other injuries associated with the knee, which perhaps leaves a little bit of hope.

Nevertheless, it is a tough blow after the rookie had a promising start to his camp and preseason.
