Joe Burrow took some big hits in Sunday’s loss to the Packers. After one play in particular, the Bengals QB was shaken up on the ground and had to go to the medical tent. However, he returned shortly after, without missing any snaps.
Following the game, it was reported by the team that Burrow had been taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible throat contusion. There was no knowledge of this issue during the game, but it reportedly became one after it ended, as Burrow was having some trouble speaking.
Early reports had indicated that the trip was more on the precautionary side. Luckily, Burrow was eventually released from the hospital without having to spend the night there. The Bengals will be monitoring the situation, but head coach Zac Taylor says to expect no limitations from Burrow.
In addition to Burrow, LB Jordan Evans also went down with an injury. With this one, however, it was clear from the beginning that it was serious. After spending some time on the ground, he was then carted off the field, with teammates coming up to him as he exited.
Unfortunately, following the game, reports stated that Evans had torn his ACL, meaning he will be placed on IR and miss the remainder of the season.
It is a tough break for Evans. While he wasn’t seeing many snaps on defence, he was a key special teams player for the Bengals. Additionally, he provided the team with solid depth.
The Bengals, meanwhile, will be looking to replace his spot on the roster. It is possible we see Joe Bachie elevated. As well, an outside free agent could be considered.
