ICYMI: Former Bengals WR Stanley Morgan Signs With Saints

Former Bengals WR Stanley Morgan has signed a 1 year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

This signing occurred in the middle of March, earlier on in the free agent process.

Morgan originally signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent following the draft in 2019. He went on to become arguably the team’s best special teamer, which earned him a spot on the roster in multiple seasons.

Despite his success on special teams, Morgan failed to show much as a receiver, and this prevented him from moving up from the bottom of the depth chart. As new faces were brought in via different avenues, he further became expendable. In 2023, the Bengals still kept him around on the practice squad because of his value on special teams. They even used the maximum three elevations allowed for a practice squad player. However, it was clear that he was falling behind some of the new additions that were brought in.

Following the 2023 season, with Morgan only appearing in 3 games, it is not a surprise to see both sides move on. The Bengals have recent draft picks, like DJ Ivey, that have helped to fill the void on special teams. As well, other players, like Shedrick Jackson, have shown more promise on offence. Morgan, meanwhile, will now look to make the roster in his new opportunity with the Saints.
