Former Bengals WR AJ Green has announced his retirement from the NFL
AJ Green was originally drafted 4th overall by the Bengals in 2011, after an outstanding career at georgia. He became an instant star for a Bengals team that was transitioning into a new era after the departures of Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Carson Palmer.
Green made 7 Pro Bowls during his years with the Bengals, and went for over 1000 yards in 6 of his 10 seasons in Cincinnati. At his peak, he was among the elite at the WR position, with the likes of Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Calvin Johnson, Odell Beckham Jr., and others.
Unfortunately, injuries got the better of him towards the end of his career, with his toe injury suffered in 2018 proving to be a devastating blow. He was in the middle of another elite season, when he suffered the injury late in the game against Tampa Bay. He would return later in the year, against the Broncos, but would leave early in the game, and miss the remainder of the season. Green would then miss the 2019 season with another injury, before returning for the 2020 season, his last with the Bengals.
He finished his time with the Bengals with 649 receptions for 9430 yards and 70 TD’s, as well as 11 carries for 93 yards. Afterwards, his final two NFL seasons were spent with the Arizona Cardinals, where he added another 78 receptions, 1084 yards, and 5 TD’s over that span.
Green was a great player, but an even better person off the field. At all times, no matter the situation, he did everything with class, and led by example. His time in Cincinnati, no doubt, has left a lasting impact.
Thank you, AJ.
