Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase has been suspended 1 game by the NFL for spitting on Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey during the team’s week 11 matchup.

The mutual hate between Chase and Ramsey goes back to the 2021 season when the two met in the Super Bowl. Of course, Bengals fans would remember Ramsey as always being this way, thinking back to his 2017 fight with the otherwise calm AJ Green.

Chase and Ramsey were at the centre of multiple scrums on Sunday. The first resulted in offsetting 15 yard penalties. It appears that a late hit in the back by Ramsey on Chase might have sparked it. Then, the two were involved again. Ramsey threw a punch, which caused him to get ejected. However, the video later showed that Chase spit on him.

We saw with Eagles DT Jalen Carter after week 1, where they set the precedent that spitting is a 1 game suspension, so this result doesn’t come as a surprise. It sounds like Chase will appeal the decision, but it is unlikely to be successful.

The Bengals face the New England Patriots this week, and will turn to Tee Higgins as their WR1. Perhaps this allows Jermaine Burton to get into the lineup, as well.
