The Bengals have announced three roster moves on Monday. They have released TE Pro Wells, WR Riley Lees, and WR Reece Horn.
Wells was signed as an undrafted free agent out of TCU, following the draft. Lees is also a rookie undrafted free agent. He was signed out of Northwestern, after the draft concluded. Horn, meanwhile, is a journeyman who was signed as a free agent in July.
Wells did not play any snaps in Saturday’s preseason opener and had been working behind guys like Thadd Moss and Mitchell Wilcox in camp. Lees and Horn only saw a limited number of snaps. Both players had been stuck at the bottom of the WR depth chart.
The new league wide cutdown rules required the Bengals to trim the roster down to 85 before Tuesday, and these moves fulfil the requirement. The Bengals have a deep WR unit and the competition at the back of the TE room seems to be narrowing down, so these moves do not come as a surprise.
