The Dallas Cowboys have signed DE KJ Henry off of the Bengals practice squad.
Henry was originally claimed by the Bengals off of waivers from the Commanders after final cuts. He played in a couple of games, but was then waived and signed to the practice squad.
Interestingly, Henry was signed to a 2 year deal by the Cowboys. The Bengals could have blocked this signing by promoting him to their active roster, but opted not to.
On Monday, meanwhile, the Bengals activated P Brad Robbins off of IR. Robbins was designated as one of the team’s preseason return candidates off IR. After Trent Brown was placed on IR, they had that free roster spot to use on him temporarily.
With Ryan Rehkow having a historic start to the year, it was never in doubt that he would remain the starter. Robbins, after having been activated, has now been waived.
His activation to the roster was necessary for them to pull some roster gymnastics with him. Releasing him off of IR would have required an injury settlement. The intent was never to keep him on the roster, but instead waive him. With Henry’s departure opening up a spot on the practice squad, perhaps the Bengals will look to keep Robbins there, if he clears waivers.
