The Bengals have waived veteran P Kevin Huber, and promoted P Drue Chrisman off of the practice squad.

This move was inevitable after Chrisman was elevated off of the practice squad in each of the last three weeks. Since the maximum number of elevations is three, promoting Chrisman to the active roster was necessary for him to see any more game action.

Huber, meanwhile, had been with the Bengals since they selected him in the 5th round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He had been one of the league’s better punters in his prime, but had his fair share of struggles over the past year and a half. The team made the decision to give Chrisman a shot at it, and he did very well, earning the starting job on a permanent basis.

At this stage in his career, it is unclear what is next for Huber. He could retire. However, should he clear waivers, the Bengals and special teams coordinator, Darrin Simmons, have expressed interest in retaining him on the practice squad. They noted that having him around the building would be good for Chrisman, who was originally signed by the Bengals as a 2020 UDFA.

In other news, S/KR Brandon Wilson has reverted to the reserve/PUP list. A few weeks ago, the Bengals cleared him to practice, which opened a 21 day window for him to be activated to the roster. The window has since closed with no action being taken. This means that Wilson will miss the entirety of the 2022 season, unless the team releases him with an injury settlement, which would allow him to go play elsewhere.
