The Bengals have waived CB Micah Abraham.
Abraham was originally a 6th round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2024. He was waived by the Colts during final cuts, and remained a free agent up until he was signed to the practice squad by the Bengals in the middle of October.
He spent 12 games on the team’s practice squad, but did not appear in any games as a call up. The Bengals signed him to a reserve/futures deal in January, but with undrafted free agents being brought in after the draft in April, he was waived to make room.
In other news, former Bengals LB Joe Bachie will officially not be returning to Cincinnati, as he has signed a 1 year deal with the Indianapolis Colts.
Bachie originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2020, making their practice squad out of camp. He then spent the end of that season with the Eagles, after they poached him away.
Waived by the Saints during the 2021 offseason, he was claimed off waivers by the Bengals. Bachie made the practice squad out of camp, but later earned a promotion to the active roster.
In his early days as a Bengal, Bachie was forced into some action, and was a surprisingly solid depth option. He also played a key role on special teams. Although he saw less playing time on defence as his tenure with the team progressed, he was still a big part of the special teams unit, even this past season.
This offseason, the Bengals revamped the LB position, adding Oren Burks in free agency, bringing back Joe Giles-Harris, who spent part of last season on the practice squad, and adding Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter in the draft. Additionally, Germaine Pratt is still hanging around, and it remains to be seen if the Bengals will keep, trade, or cut him.
With a crowded LB room, the Bengals opted not to retain Bachie. He will now look to make the Colts roster out of camp.
The team news does not end with Bachie, though this one is not roster related. Christian Sarkisian, who was a scout for the Bengals, is leaving to join Northwestern as the GM of their athletic department, according to Pete Thamel.
Sarkisian went to school at Northwestern, and also spent 3 years working for their football program. The Bengals, meanwhile, are notorious for having such a small scouting department. Well, it just got smaller. They will now have to find a replacement.
