The Bengals have announced that upgrades will be made at Paycor Stadium (formerly Paul Brown Stadium) this offseason. Included in those upgrades is new field turf.
The stadium started out with grass when it opened in 2000, but by 2004, artificial turf was implemented. The turf was changed in 2012, and then again in 2018. This new turf will be the 5th different playing surface at the stadium since its opening.
When selecting their new turf, they underwent a decision making process that looked at the NFL’s testing requirements, while also consulting experts in the industry. Needless to say, player safety played a big part in the decision.
This project was approved by Hamilton County Commissioners, and will use the funds that were approved in the winter, which are dedicated to improvements to the stadium.
As for the specific turf that has been chosen, they will be going with the FieldTurf CORE system, made by the company FieldTurf. The Bengals turf from 2004-2011 was also made by this company. Among the teams currently using the FieldTurf CORE system in the NFL are the Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, and Detroit Lions.
