Bengals Sign TE Mike Gesicki

The Bengals will be signing former Dolphins and Patriots TE Mike Gesicki to a 1 year/$3.25M deal.

This is a big boost to the TE room, as Gesicki brings athleticism and size to the table. He’ll be the best receiving threat they’ve had at the position since Tyler Eifert.

Gesicki doesn’t do much blocking, but luckily, Drew Sample was already re-signed to do a lot of that. Instead, he’ll be someone they can move around the formation to create mismatches. He excels out of the slot, and can be a threat in all areas of the field, including the redzone.

His production has been down in recent years, but he was on a Patriots team that underutilized him, and really, has had a tough time figuring out a lot of things on offence over that span. In a new environment that has the tools in place to take advantage of his skill set, we should see a version of Gesicki that resembles what we saw during his Miami days.

Gesicki and Sample are now the only two TE’s on the Bengals roster. We could see them add another in the draft. As well, re-signing Tanner Hudson should still be an option.
