With the 60th overall pick (2nd round) in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select CB Cam Taylor-Britt.
The Bengals traded up three spots with the Bills to make the pick, giving up a 6th in the process.
Taylor-Britt played in 40 games at Nebraska from 2018-2021. He has good size for a CB and plays with good physicality. He is quick to help out against the run, and can deliver a punishing blow. Taylor-Britt is insanely athletic, both in terms of speed and agility. When combined with his physicality, you can see why he has so much upside. In coverage, he has the ability to blanked his opponent, leaving little separation. His burst and aggressiveness leads to some major flashes in zone, as well.
The knocks against him aren’t so much the physical parts of his game, but rather, the mental aspects. His play recognition and overall instincts are still very much in need of development. He bites on fakes and double moves, leading to a wide open receiver deep. Taylor-Britt has been burned more often than what is ideal. As well, the aggressiveness against the run can sometimes make his play erratic and uncontrolled, leading to poor angles and missed tackles.
It is a risky pick for the Bengals, but one that brings a boat load of upside. It will be up to the coaches to develop him and tap into the potential.
With the 95th overall pick (3rd round) in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select DT Zach Carter.
Carter is a versatile player who has been moved all over the line, playing a large number of snaps in each spot. In the NFL, he projects as a 3T DT. He has the athleticism to thrive in the position, and his pass rush moves are well developed. Carter is a bit of a tweener, with more of a DE frame. Therefore, he will need to bulk up if he is going to focus on DT at the NFL level.
Carter should be able to mix into the rotation for the Bengals this year. He has starter potential down the line.
