The Bengals have released RB Zack Moss.
Moss was signed by the team last year during the free agency period after they traded Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans. He went on to play in 8 games, rushing for 242 yards and 2 TD’s, while adding 187 yards and 1 TD through the air.
While he was starting to lose work to Chase Brown, Moss still added a nice power element to the offence. Unfortunately, he ended up going down with a neck injury, which cost him the rest of the season. To start camp, he was placed on the NFI list, as the neck was seemingly still an issue. It was also recently revealed that he had broken his neck in three places.
Moss reworked his deal earlier in the offseason, taking on a smaller salary while getting more guaranteed money. This allowed him to avoid getting cut earlier, and gave him the possibility of competing for a spot in camp. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out in the end.
The Bengals save $1.25M in cap space with this move, while leaving behind $1.875M in dead money. They will move forward with Samaje Perine and Tahj Brooks behind starter Chase Brown.
In other news, rookie C Seth McLaughlin has been cleared to practice, and was activated off the NFI list.
Entering camp, he was still recovering from an injury sustained during his final year in college. Now back and ready to go, he will be looking to compete for a roster spot on the team. Being versatile and showing the ability to play multiple iOL spots would be a good way to do so.
