The Bengals have re-signed WR Trent Taylor.
Taylor was originally a 5th round pick of the San Francisco 49ers back in 2017. After a solid rookie season, where he contributed 430 yards and 2 TD’s, injuries would derail his tenure with the 49ers.
San Francisco decided not to retain Taylor once his rookie contract expired at the conclusion of the 2020 season. In May 2021, he signed a 1 year deal with the Bengals.
Taylor would go on to spend much of the year on the Bengals practice squad, but saw increased usage towards the back half of the year. He appeared in 8 games, being used primarily as a punt returner. The wideout also caught 2 passes for 41 yards.
Taylor appeared in each of the team’s four playoff games, including the Super Bowl. His role as the team’s punt returner carried over into the postseason, but his most memorable play was when his two point conversion tied the game against Kansas City.
Taylor will return for his second offseason with the team. He will again compete for a spot on the roster. With other depth players like Auden Tate and Mike Thomas set to hit free agency, he seems to have an inside track right now. However, his position will become much clearer following the conclusion of free agency and the draft.
