The Bengals have re-signed a couple of players on defence, including a key starter from the past few seasons.
LB Germaine Pratt has been re-signed to a 3 year/$21M contract. The deal includes $10.35M in year 1, and $15.15M through year 2, per Tom Pelissero.
This is a great contract for the Bengals. There was initial fear that Pratt would end up signing elsewhere in free agency. However, other signings at the position from the league ended up causing the LB market to dip a little bit, and Pratt wound up being within the Bengals price range.
Pratt has developed nicely since being drafted in 2019. He brings size and can travel sideline to sideline to make stops. And as impressive as he has been in that regard, his play in coverage has been even better. It is a rare blend, and the Bengals now have him locked up for another 3 years.
A while before the Pratt signing, it was announced that S Michael Thomas had been re-signed to a 1 year deal.
Thomas is only a depth player as a safety, but has been a key contributor on special teams over the past year+, and a team captain. His spot on the team is not guaranteed, but he is a good bet to earn a spot once again, in the same role.
