The Bengals have re-signed G Dalton Risner to a 1 year deal worth up to $5M.

This was a big one on the to do list, and it is good to see it get done before the start of free agency. That’s not to say there was any concern it wouldn’t get done, but when the calendar flips into March, you don’t want these things hanging too much longer.

Risner was originally a 2nd round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2019. After his rookie deal, he spent a couple of seasons in Minnesota with the Vikings.

He was a late signing for the Bengals last offseason, and initially went into the season as a backup. Lucas Patrick and Jalen Rivers both got time at RG, but it was Risner who eventually established himself as the permanent starter. This coincided with the whole unit essentially doing a 180, after a brutal start to the year.

Known for his consistency in pass protection, Risner lived up to the expectations. As well, he performed better than expected in the run game. Now, he will be back for another season, and the Bengals seem set to run it back with the same unit. Hopefully we see the same results that were produced in the back half of last season.
