The Bengals have promoted QB AJ McCarron to the active roster from the practice squad. McCarron was first signed to the practice squad prior to week 3 for his second stint with the Bengals. He also spent 2014-2017 with the team, but was most recently playing in the XFL. McCarron had been serving as the 3rd string QB prior to Joe Burrow’s injury, and has been the backup to Browning ever since.
Room for McCarron opened up when CB Cam Taylor-Britt was placed on IR with an ankle injury. Taylor-Britt has been dealing with some injuries for a while now, but was slated to return to the lineup in week 13. However, he unfortunately aggravated his injury during practice late in the week, and now finds himself on IR. He will miss a minimum of 4 games, including the Bengals week 13 matchup against the Jaguars.
