The Bengals have made a string of moves over the past few days. S Brandon Wilson has been placed on the reserve/PUP list. As well, WR’s Jaivon Heiligh and Jack Sorenson have been waived, as have TE Scotty Washington and QB Drew Plitt.
The news on Wilson is the most notable of the bunch. He suffered a torn ACL part way through last season, and seemingly needs more time to recover. Being on the reserve/PUP list, Wilson will be forced to miss a minimum of 4 games, making him eligible to be removed in week 5. It is an unfortunate turn for Wilson. Not only has the safety depth been bolstered, but Chris Evans has been impressing in his kick return opportunities. You have to wonder if Wilson fits in when he is healthy enough to return.
Heiligh, Sorenson, and Plitt are all undrafted rookies. The two receivers were signed by the Bengals shortly after the draft. With other undrafted rookies, Pryor and Lassiter, impressing, these moves do not come as a surprise. As for Plitt, he was always considered a camp arm by the Bengals. He did play well in his preseason snaps though, perhaps earning himself another opportunity elsewhere.
Washington, meanwhile, was originally signed by the Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He started out as a WR, spending the 2020 season on the practice squad. Washington also spent the entire 2021 season on the Bengals practice squad. This offseason, he had been working as a TE, but it seems the transition was unsuccessful, as he was let go before other bubble guys like Moss, Eubanks, and Rigg.
