The Bengals have placed CB Darius Phillips on injured reserve.
Phillips was seemingly injured after one of his muffed punts on Sunday. He left the game for a period of time before eventually returning. He was then benched after his second muff.
As per the IR rules, Phillips will be required to miss a minimum of three games, meaning he will be eligible to return in week 18 against the Browns.
With Brandon Wilson already out for the year, it is unclear how the Bengals will proceed at both returner spots. Stanley Morgan replaced Phillips as the kick returner on Sunday, but did not impress. On punt return duty, it was Trenton Irwin and Tyler Boyd after Phillips exited. It is possible that Irwin continues to see more action in that role. As well, Trent Taylor or Pooka Williams could be elevated from the practice squad to fill the void.
In other news, the Bengals have signed P Drue Chrisman to the practice squad.
Chrisman is a rookie UDFA and has been on and off the team’s practice squad since the beginning of the year.
He will now return for another stint, this coming after Darrin Simmons recently described Kevin Huber’s season as being up and down. It is possible that the Bengals view Chrisman as the punter of the future and eventual successor to Huber.
