The Bengals have made their final cuts and have announced the 53 man roster.

The team has waived the following 20 players:

  • QB, Kyle Shurmur
  • RB, Jacques Patrick
  • RB, Pooka Williams
  • RB, Trayveon Williams
  • WR, Scotty Washington
  • TE, Thaddeus Moss
  • OT, Gunnar Vogel
  • G, Michael Jordan
  • G, Keaton Sutherland
  • DE, Amani Bledsoe
  • DT, Renell Wren
  • DT, Kahlil McKenzie
  • LB, Joe Bachie
  • LB, Keandre Jones
  • CB, Winston Rose
  • CB, Tony Brown
  • CB, Antonio Phillips
  • S, Trayvon Henderson
  • K, Austin Seibert
  • P, Drue Chrisman

They have released the following 4 players (not subject to waivers):

  • WR, Trent Taylor
  • TE, Mason Schreck
  • DE, Noah Spence
  • DT, Mike Daniels

They have placed the following 2 players on the reserve/NFI list:

  • 77. Hakeem Adeniji (OT)
  • 56. Wyatt Hubert (DE)

They have also placed the following player on IR:

  • 58. Joseph Ossai (DE)

The biggest surprise from the list of cuts is probably Michael Jordan. While I haven’t been as high on his preseason as some have been, he did look improved. At his young age, you figure he still has some upside. If he doesn’t get claimed, perhaps they stash him on the practice squad.

Mike Daniels would have come as a surprise, but the trade for BJ Hill allowed the Bengals to release the veteran. His leadership in the locker room will be missed. Maybe they try to keep him on the practice squad, but I don’t think Daniels would be up for that at this stage of his career.

Thadd Moss is the one that created the most chatter among fans. However, it is not a surprise. At the end of the day, Mitchell Wilcox outperformed him on special teams, something Darrin Simmons said would be important. Joe Burrow’s recent comments would have suggested that Moss would make the team, but it goes to show that Burrow is not the coach, nor is he the GM.
