The Bengals took the field for the first time this preseason, squaring off against the Green Bay Packers. For the Bengals, it was a chance to evaluate many of the depth players fighting for spots. The Packers, meanwhile, decided to give their starters a few dives in the 1st quarter, which proved to be a tough test.

Neither team managed to get much going on their first drive, but each would score on their next two drives. The Bengals defence had some trouble stopping the Packers first team offence. Jordan Love was able to find Romeo Doubs multiple times, and Sidney Jones was the victim on some of Love’s completions. The Packers would score 2 TD’s on these two drives, while the Bengals were only able to answer with a field goal each time.

After falling down 14-6, the Bengals clawed back to take the lead. Tycen Anderson jumped a route and took his interception all the way back. An Evan McPherson field goal would then make it 16-14 for the Bengals.

Anderson would pick off another pass, but Jake Browning handed it right back to the Packers, as his pass intended for Shedrick Jackson was high, and picked off. It took only 25 seconds for Green Bay to find the end zone, thanks largely to a 47 yard completion to start the drive. It was 21-16 Packers at the half.

The two teams exchanged field goals in the back half of the 3rd quarter, before the Packers extended their lead via an 11 yard TD run. It was 30-19 at this, with Green Bay missing the extra point.

Green Bay would add one more TD before the end of the 4th quarter. The drive only needed one play, as Wilson took a handoff 80 yards to the house. After another missed extra point for Green Bay, the game ended with a 36-19 score line.

The Bengals will head to Atlanta next week to take on the Falcons in the middle leg of the preseason.
