The Bengals have picked up the 5th year option of CB Daxton Hill.

On the option, he will make $12.7M in 2026.

Hill was originally a 1st round pick by the Bengals in 2022. Drafted as a S, he spent his rookie season as a backup, before replacing Jessie Bates as the starter at FS in 2023. After things did not quite work out at S, the team switched him to CB, leading up to the 2024 season.

Hill, after a battle with DJ Turner, won the starting job, opposite Cam Taylor-Britt. After a solid start to his first year at CB, he unfortunately tore his ACL in week 5 against the Ravens.

This move was not a lock to happen, but does not come as a surprise either, given that Hill was having a solid season in his first one at CB, before tearing his ACL.

It is a gamble for the Bengals, as Hill’s sample size at CB is small, and you don’t know how he’ll be after the injury. But the flip side is that he is a great athlete who has shown promise.

With the cap rising and the CB market continuing to get more expensive, the price isn’t all that hefty when taking that into consideration. If he can build on what he did to start last year, it will be good value, and the team may look to get an extension done next offseason.
