The Bengals had Tuesday off after a couple of productive sessions on Sunday and Monday. A lot of positives were shown on days 9 and 10. However, there was also some tough news on the injury front.

DE Cam Sample, who went down a couple of practices ago, has now been confirmed to be out for the season with an achilles injury. A tough blow for the team’s depth, as he has been a solid rotational piece for the last few years, with his play against the run earning praise in the past. This may now open the door for rookie Cedric Johnson.

With Trent Brown easing into things slowly, Amarius Mims worked again with the 1’s on day 9. He had some good battles with Myles Murphy. Mims seemed to have the edge in the reps I caught. Murphy did look pretty good against the run.

On day 9, the deep passes continued, as Joe Burrow found Charlie Jones, who had beaten Lance Robinson. Burrow also had a TD to Trenton Irwin on the day. Irwin beat Josh Newton in coverage. It was a good early drive for the Bengals offence, but the defence was largely the better unit afterwards.

Rookie S Daijahn Anthony continues to impress in camp. He picked up his 3rd interception of the summer, picking off Jake Browning on a pass that looked like it was intended for Shedrick Jackson. Anthony read the play well and left his spot to jump the pass.

Geno Stone also was noticeable. One one standout play, he read things nicely, putting himself in position to breakup a pass intended for Iosivas.

Continuing on with some standout defensive plays on day 9, Joe Bachie had a great one. He was playing in zone in the middle of the field, and stretched out to make a nice pass breakup. While he might not be considered a “lock,” he is expected to again serve as depth at the LB position this year.

The defensive playmaking continued on day 10. Vonn Bell and Geno Stone continued to perform well, both receiving praise from Lou Anaumo. Their instincts and ability to communicate on the field have been noted right from the first day of camp.

Joseph Ossai had his best day of camp on day 10, making some nice run stops against Zack Moss. He was disruptive as a pass rusher, and made another tackle against the run, which resulted in a safety. Myles Murphy also beat Amarius Mims for a safety, getting the upper hand on the battle for that day, after Mims had the edge on day 9. A great battle between two talented young players. It has been fun to watch.

On the injury front, things have been progressing for Trent Brown. He was in uniform and doing individual drills. Things should be ramping up soon for him. WR’s Chase and Higgins did not practice. Chase continued his hold in, while Higgins had the day off. DT McKinnley Jackson left practice on Monday, and Mike Gesicki missed with some tightness.

The Bengals will be back on the practice field on Wednesday.
