The Bengals head into the 2021 season with few question marks in regards to special teams.

Inconsistent play last year, combined with his inability to consistently hit long kicks, caused the Bengals to move on from Randy Bullock. The team then drafted Evan McPherson in the 5th round to fill the void.

The Bengals do still have Austin Seibert on the roster. He, however, has arguably been more inconsistent than Bullock. Missed kicks led to his release from the Browns, and he did not do much to impress in his few games with the Bengals last year. There will be a “competition” between McPherson and Seibert during training camp, but McPherson is fully expected to win the job.

Kevin Huber will return for his 13th season as the Bengals punter. While the last couple of years were down ones, by his standards, Huber bounced back in 2020, showing he has still got it, even at 36 years of age.

The Bengals signed Ohio State punter Drue Chrisman as an UDFA, and he also has traits that they like. It is unlikely that he unseats Huber this year, but he could serve as an understudy on the practice squad.

Training camp has begun and Clark Harris is the only long snapper on the roster, locking him into the starting spot. The Bengals had invested a few years into Dan Godsil, seemingly grooming him to eventually take over for Harris, at some point. Unfortunately for the Bengals, Godsil unexpectedly retired earlier in the offseason, meaning that they will have to look elsewhere to find Harris’ eventual replacement.
