Bengals Re-Sign TE Tanner Hudson

The Bengals are re-signing TE Tanner Hudson to a 1 year deal.

Hudson rose from practice squadder at the beginning of the year to starter by roughly the mid-way point. But in all fairness, his impressive preseason and good performance in week 3 against the Rams should have earned him a bigger role much sooner.

Once he jumped Irv Smith on the depth chart, Hudson became a reliable target for Burrow, and we saw production from the TE position increase. He ended up totaling 352 yards and a TD on the season.

Going into next year, Hudson will face competition to see the field on offence. Drew Sample, as the blocking TE, shouldn’t have too much of an impact on Hudson’s role. However, new addition Mike Gesicki may cause Hudson’s role to be fairly limited. And that is before factoring in a potential draft pick at the position.

In any event, this is a good move for the Bengals. Hudson is cheap and reliable, which is a good combination to have in a depth player.
